A program in Medical Dietetics was established within the Department of Preventive Medicine in 1961. Ours was the first coordinated program in dietetics in the United States. The program was unique because it was the first to combine regular classes and supervised practice so that a student could complete all program requirements in four years (instead of five). The first class of Medical Dietetics students graduated in 1964.

Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education is ADA's accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians or dietetic technicians, registered.
 
CADE exists to serve the public by establishing and enforcing eligibility requirements and accreditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education programs. Programs meeting those standards are accredited by CADE. 

OSU's Division of Medical Dietetics Coordinated Program and the Combined Masters/Internship are both accredited by CADE.

 
National Recognition by USDE and CHEA

CADE is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. This affirms that CADE meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics education programs.
