Pre-Commencement Ceremony

Tickets can be purchased for each guest for $7. Graduates are not required to purchase a ticket. The initial ticket sale will take place from Monday, February 4- Friday, April 11, 2008. Each graduate may purchase up to five (5) tickets in the initial ticket sale.
If additional seats are available, a secondary ticket sale will take place Monday, April 28- Friday, May 30, 2008. Graduates may purchase an unlimited number of tickets during the secondary ticket sale on a first come, first served basis.

Pre-Commencement Ceremony
Program Information
Date/Location
The Pre-Commencement ceremony is held in the Tom W. Davis Special Events Gym in the lower level of the RPAC on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 230 pm. Graduates will be asked to report to the RPAC at 1:30 pm to line up for the processional.
Program
The Pre-Commencement ceremony allows the faculty and staff of the School to recognize graduates for their individual accomplishments in the School and their program of study. Graduates are presented with a certificate acknowledging their participation in the program. Students who have achieve academic honors, award of merit, and other notable achievements will also be recognized. Light refreshments are served after the ceremony that includes an opportunity to socialize with students, faculty, and staff.
The SAMP Pre-Commencement program has a long history of being an event that is hosted by the SAMP Student Council. The Student Council plans all aspects of the program and participates in fundraising events throughout the academic year to defray some of the cost of the event.
Tickets
Tickets for the Pre-Commencement program are $7 for each guest. Graduates are not required to purchase a ticket. The SAMP Student Council hopes to “break even” on the event, and keeps the cost to guests as low as possible.
Parking
Parking is available in the Neil Avenue Garage for a fee. Students will a parking permit may park in spaces surrounding the Stadium.
Handicap Access
Handicap parking is available in the Neil Avenue Garage and all levels of the RPAC are handicap accessible. Guest and graduates may also enter the RPAC on the north side of the facility (near the Stadium) for closer access.
Attire
Graduate need NOT wear the cap and gown. Most graduates wear business attire (gentleman in shirt/tie and ladies in suits or dresses). Graduates and families are encouraged to take photographs with other students and faculty and staff.
Pre-Commencement vs. Commencement
The Pre-Commencement ceremony allows the faculty and staff of the School to individually recognize graduates. The ceremony is indoors and provides an opportunity for a more intimate experience. Pre-Commencement is typically an excellent event for families who are unable to attend the University Commencement ceremony.
The University Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 8, 2008 will include students who are graduating from all of the colleges and school at Ohio State. The Commencement ceremony is held in the Ohio Stadium and typically exceeds 40,000 guests. The event is held rain or shine and can be canceled for reasons such as inclement weather.
