SUGGESTED SCHEDULING PLAN

 

General Education Curriculum: 79-80 hours
Program Prerequisites:           42-48 hours
Professional Curriculum:         92 hours



The following plan allows students to complete the HIMS prerequisite courses as well as the GEC Requirements prior to enrollment in the professional program.  The plan demonstrates how students may complete the HIMS program in 12 quarters. Additional courses may be taken in the summer for students completing additional GECs, program, and/or minor (see below) requirements.

It is assumed that students following this plan below will begin Professional coursework (Year 3) in Autumn 2008.

SUGGESTED ELECTIVES OR MINORS

Students interested in enhancing their professional background through electives, specialization, or minors may consider the following:

General Business Minor: AMIS 310, BUSFIN 420, BUSmhr 400, BUSMGT 430, BUSM&L 450.

Specialization in Management Information Systems (MIS): CS&E 201, 214, 314, 670, 516/616 and select three from AMIS 532, 651, 653, 655, 657, 658, 659.

CS&E Information Systems Minor: CS&E 201, 214, 314, 360, 670, MATH 366 and select one from CS&E 560, 616, or 671.

Public Health Minor: PUBHLTH 400, 510 and select two from 520, 530, or 550 and select one from AM 655, 668 or GEOSCI 203.

 

PROFESSIONAL CURRICULUM

The professional phase of the curriculum takes six quarters to complete and consists of course work in clinical science, health information management, business administration, and information systems.  The professional program is made up of didactic and practicum experiences.  The last quarter of study is devoted to a full time management internship.  Internships are available both in and out of state and are located in a variety of health-related organizations and entities.  The student is responsible for his/her own food, lodging, and travel costs associated with practicum and internship experiences.  There is no guarantee a student will be placed in Columbus, Ohio for the internship.
