Program Goals

The program will prepare the student to excel in an academic career at a major University.  Through a combination of coursework and practical experience, students will develop competencies in:

  • Research methods, statistical techniques, and quantitative (and qualitative) analysis to develop and conduct research programs in health and rehabilitation sciences.
  • College teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring to enter university faculty positions.
  • Leadership and policy to advance health care and allied health professions.

The PhD program is open to allied health professionals who have completed a graduate degree. This degree can be a Master of Science (MS) in Allied Medical Professions, Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT), Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Masters of Science in Dietetics. Other related graduate degrees may be appropriate; contact the Graduate Studies Office (terek.2@osu.edu).
