The PhD program is open to applicants who have completed a graduate degree. This degree can be a Master of Science (MS) in Allied Medical Professions, Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT), Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT), Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Masters of Science in Dietetics. Other related graduate degrees may be appropriate; contact the Graduate Studies Office (terek.2@osu.edu). In addition, specific courses are required
- Two graduate level research methods courses
- One graduate level college teaching course
The documents required to apply for the PhD program include;
- Graduate Program Application.
- Two sets of official transcripts (send one to the Graduate School and one to the Graduate Studies Office, School of Allied Medical Professions).
- Graduate Record Examination scores (send to Graduate School).
- Three letters of recommendation (send to Graduate Studies Office, School of Allied Medical Professions)
- Statement of Intent (send to Graduate Studies Office, School of Allied Medical Professions).
- Instructions for the Statement of Intent.
- An agreement from one of the School’s Graduate Faculty to act as a potential adviser.
Additional materials to submit when available are:
- Your CV with a list of publications and presentations.
- Copies of research reports or other publications that you have authored.
Note: International students, whose native language is not English, must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Candidates for admission into the program will be interviewed. The interview will include at least two of the graduate faculty and may be in person or by phone.
Admission Criteria
- You must have a 3.0 or better GPA from their undergraduate studies and a 3.3 or better from their previous graduate studies.
- You must score at least 1000 on the combination of Verbal and Quantitative GRE scores. You must score at least 4.0 on the analytic component.
- One of the School’s graduate faculty must agree to act as a potential adviser for you. This faculty member will have room to accept a new student under their tutelage and be a primary evaluator of your complete application once received.
- Statement of Intent: Should include the following:
- Autobiographical information emphasizing prior education
- Your research interests and fit of your interests to the School’s program
- Your educational and professional goals
- Instructions for the Statement of Intent.
Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation should be written by individuals who can provide information about your academic abilities and preparation for graduate school. Information about your learning capacity, work habits, ability to analyze, writing skills, and interpersonal skills is helpful to review of your application. Recommendations from professors and teachers from past coursework are appropriate. People recommending you should understand your reasons for pursuing a PhD.
