Your application must include a letter of intent. In 2 - 3 pages, single-spaced and typed, explain why you want to enroll in the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Ph.D. Program. Our goal is to admit students who will flourish in our specific environment and who will go on to productive careers as leaders in their disciplines. Your statement of intent along with the recommendations written by others on your behalf will be used to determine whether we are the right kind of program for you, and whether you are the right kind of student for our program.
The following elements should be addressed in your letter of intent. The admission committee expects you to be creative but deliberate in the way you choose to address these elements. Your writing and organization, as well as the content, will be evaluated by the committee. You may include additional information to explain your career goals and/or educational and professional background.
- What educational and non-educational background has prepared you to enter a PhD program? What are your reasons for seeking a higher level of education?
- What interests you about research? What experiences have you had that have nurtured this interest? If you have ever conducted research in the past, describe your abilities and accomplishments.
- What faculty and faculty research areas within our program specifically draw your interest? How would research in these areas build upon any prior training you have had? What plans do you have for continuing your research once you complete your training at Ohio State?
