MPT-to-DPT Completion Program

Home > Alumni and Friends > MPT-to-DPT Completion Program

We are pleased to announce that the Physical Therapy graduate program and The Ohio State University is offering an opportunity for MPT alumni to return to the program to complete their Doctorate of Physical Therapy. This special arrangement is only available to MPT students who have graduated from the OSU program and have a current license to practice physical therapy in Ohio. It has been approved by the University and the Ohio Board of Regents. The requirements for this degree must be completed within the next 5 years (by January 2014). So, if you are interested in pursuing this degree on a part-time basis, you must start your course work as soon as possible!

The program is offered in a traditional, onsite course-based format which allows for dialogue with professors, students, and hands-on skill development. It is also an opportunity to obtain your DPT degree from a fully accredited program. Details of the requirements can be found in the requirements handout. In brief, most DPT graduates must have a total of 153 quarter credits (150 if the student has already completed Pharm 600) between the MPT and  DPT courses.  Students in our MPT-to-DPT completion program will take those courses consistent with the current requirements of our DPT degree program that were not taken in the MPT program.  These include advanced courses in areas such as foundational sciences, clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, case-based research, differential diagnosis, clinical diagnostic tests and measures, professional development, and health policy and management.

To apply for admission this program, please complete the form, “Permission to Reactivate Enrollment Eligibility” and send verification of your current physical therapy license to
