RT Faculty Do Vega$

The RT faculty presented 6 research posters at the 2006 International Respiratory Congress held in Las Vegas December 11-14, 2006.

Phillip Hoberty, EdD, RRT presented "The Evaluation of Quality Assurance and the Service Domain in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation" and Utilization of ACLS Skills by the RCP in a Code Situation: A Comparison to Department Manager’s Expectations of ACLS Skills by the RCP."
 
Georgianna Sergakis PhD, RRT presented "The Role of the Respiratory Therapist in Providing Smoking Cessation Education" and "Smoking Cessation Inservice Training for Respiratory Therapists."

 

Sarah M Varekojis PhD RRT presented "The Current State-Wide Use of Airway Clearance Techniques" and "In-Patient Smoking Cessation Protocols."

Georgianna Sergakis, RT Instructor completed her doctoral degree Au'06 and earned her PhD. Congratulations Dr. Georg!
 
Class of 2007 45% RRT
Pam Kuhlman, RRT was the first in the Class of 2007 to earn the advanced respiratory therapy credential Registered Respiratory Therapist, and she has been joined by Adam Buxton RRT, Jen Kaufhold RRT, Branden Luna RRT, Riko Ohori RRT, Rebecca Oppermann RRT, Rebecca Rosenstein RRT, Jenny Secrist RRT,  and Andrew Weirauch, RRT. Congratulations new RRTs!  Class of 2007 is 45% RRT!

Alumni Seen in Vegas

Thomas Knowles ('04), Rory Mullin ('05), and Jeff Hunter ('05) received the 2006 INO Therapeutics First-Time Authors Literary Award for their paper “Effects of Syringe Material, Sample Storage Time, and Temperature on Blood Gases and Oxygen Saturation in Arterialized Human Blood Samples.

Jonathan B Waugh PhD ('94) from University of Alabama presented "The Association of Mechanical Ventilation and Ralstonia Colonization/Infection in the USA by Meta-Analysis"

Peggy Ler ('03) from Singapore presented "High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation in Adults: The Initial Experience in Singapore General Hospital."

Tim R Myers ('89) of Cleveland presented the Con view in the debate entitled "Every Mechanically Ventilated Patient Should be Monitored with Capnography", "Neonatal Resuscitation Program Guidelines Update", "Pediatric and Neonatal Testing."

 

RT Scholarship Fund To Be Endowed

Thanks to the relentless efforts of  Bobby Hawk (’86), the "Respiratory Therapy Scholarship Fund" reached the endowment level of $25,000. With Board of Trustees approval expected soon, interest from the fund will provide an annual scholarship, the first for RT@OSU students who are intent on pursuing a respiratory therapy career. The selection of the recipients shall be made based on academic merit and achievement.

Alumni and friends who wish to donate to this fund can donate on-line at Give to OSU.  To designate a gift, choose "Other: Please specify in special instructions" and specify "The Respiratory Therapy Scholarship Fund # 401172" in the special instructions.
