Dr. Fernanda Krupek
The urban agriculture industry in Ohio is evolving alongside the people, communities, and partners it has long supported. My work as an urban food systems horticulturalist advances AMP's mission through improving agroecosystems and their impact on society, the economy, and the environment. My research and extension program seeks to cultivate horticultural food production systems serving urban and regional markets that are productive and nutritive, resource-use efficient, economically viable, and socially responsible. I use agroecological lens to frame my research and extension program and address urban food systems and the challenges that come with them. This lens accounts for the multifaceted ecological, social, economic, and political dimensions of urban farming. Through my teaching instruction, I serve as one of the advisors of the Student Farm, providing leadership to a cohort of students and developing curriculum that positions the farm as a living lab for students interested in gaining hands-on and professional skills in a broad range of agri-food systems-related skills.
