My research focuses on understanding how we can better restore the structure and function of ecological communities within degraded and working landscapes to benefit people and wildlife. I work in both temperate and tropical agricultural systems. For example, in Bolivia I am working with local partners and landowners to understand how we can restore bird communities through more sustainable cattle management. Likewise, here in Ohio I am looking at how bird communities vary in their utilization of fragmented on-farm woodlots with a view to developing indicator species that can assist in on-farm woodland quality assessment.
