Osler Ortez
In 2022, I joined The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor with 50% extension, 30% research, and 20% teaching appointment in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). I lead an applied research and extension program in Corn and Emerging Crop Production Systems. My programmatic goals are centered on overall crop productivity, focusing on maximizing yield, economic, and environmental outcomes. Since 2022, I have worked on corn and cover crop production system projects at local, regional, and national scales, including projects in organic production. On emerging crops, our program has had active efforts in sunflower production as an alternative crop option for Ohio, and more recently I am part of a newly launched initiative studying domestic natural rubber alternatives in US ecosystems. At large, our research programs are carried out either on university farms, on farms, or through industry partners in the state and the region.
